Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important official said the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
